Sink speed is often the thing that flips a slow session, so it is worth carrying one of each. The crown is a stepped set of hooks at two different opening angles, there to convert the soft, half-hearted grabs you get from cold squid.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eChoosing a sink rate.\u003c\/strong\u003e The plain sizes (2.5 \/ 3.0 \/ 3.5 \/ 4.0) are the basic tier and drop at roughly 3 seconds per metre — the everyday choice over reef edges and in a bit of depth. \u003cstrong\u003eS = Shallow\u003c\/strong\u003e halves that to about 6 sec\/m, which is what you want over shallow weed beds and ribbon grass where a basic jig buries itself before the squid commits. \u003cstrong\u003eSS = Super Shallow\u003c\/strong\u003e is slower again at about 8 sec\/m, for knee-deep flats, oyster racks and the hanging-in-their-face presentations that pressured calamari fall for.
