The three numbers that matter

READ THIS BEFORE THE GEAR

JIG WEIGHT 150 → 400G

Weight is chosen by depth and current, not by the size of the fish. A 150–400g rod covers the large majority of offshore work; step up to a heavier blank only for deep drops or hard current.

START AT 200G

PE RATING 1.5 – 2.5

Thin braid keeps you vertical and in contact with the jig. Go too heavy and the current bows your line, killing the flutter that makes the technique work.

PE 2.0 + 40LB LEADER

DRAG 3 – 5KG

Slow pitch blanks are deliberately soft. The rod absorbs the fight, not the drag — set it lighter than feels natural and let the blank load.
