Eging
Casting weighted prawn imitations — egi — for calamari and arrow squid. Australia has world-class water for it in every state — bays, jetties and reef edges from Port Phillip to Perth.
The three numbers that matter
READ THIS BEFORE THE BUILDSThe size of the jig sets everything upstream of it. 3.0–3.5 covers Victorian calamari most of the year; 2.5 in high-pressure shallows, 4.0 for spring big-bodies on deep weed.
Power must match egi weight, not squid size. An M throws 3.0–4.0 cleanly and still loads on the rip. Softer tips read jetty-current takes.
Thin PE casts further and cuts current; the leader takes the abrasion. 0.6 is the Port Phillip default. Match spool capacity.
Three builds, specced by our staff
