Daiwa Emeraldas Drift Mask

A clip-on mask that slows an egi down without changing the egi. It is moulded in a soft, buoyant material and carries two gill-like vanes that grab water on the drop — between the buoyancy and the drag, the fall speed comes down and, more importantly, the attitude stays level for longer. That is the part that catches squid: a long, flat, unhurried fall is what a cautious calamari will follow all the way down. Push it on when the squid are following and not committing, pull it off when you need to get deep. Two sizes, for 3.0 and 3.5 egi.

AminoX. The material is dosed with Daiwa's AminoX amino-acid attractant, so it adds a scent trail to the slower fall — useful when squid are mouthing the jig and letting go.
