GT & Popping
Big topwater worked hard over shallow reef and washes. Giant trevally first, but the same rig covers queenfish, tuna and the heavier kingfish. This is the heaviest tackle in the shop and none of it is optional — the reef decides the numbers, not the fish.
The three numbers that matter
READ THIS BEFORE THE GEARRoughly 80–130lb. Carry 250–300m of it — a hooked fish takes a lot of line in the first run, and you do not get a second chance at the bommie.
Heavy mono or fluoro, joined with an FG knot so the connection runs through the guides on the cast. Coral abrasion sets this number.
Capacity and a properly sealed drag. Anything smaller runs out of line before the fish runs out of reef.
